How we work: transparency
Last updated: April 20, 2026
Fine Is a Lie is built, maintained, and operated by a solo founder under the pseudonym “John.” This page documents what is and is not AI-generated on our platform, so you can make an informed choice about the product.
What is a pseudonym, not AI
- The founder. “John” is a name chosen for identity protection. A real person made every decision, wrote every core script, approved every exercise, and answers every support email.
- The story. Panic attacks, walking away from a high-income career, and rebuilding from rock bottom are a real account of the founder's lived experience.
- The methodology. The thirty-day curriculum, the fifty-plus exercises, and the four stuckness archetypes (Overthinker, Burned-Out Giver, Drifter, Perfectionist) reflect the founder's own recovery process and independent research into CBT, ACT, and behavioural activation frameworks.
- Refund decisions, pricing decisions, and business decisions. All made by the founder.
What is AI-assisted
- Voice recordings. The voice messages on quiz results and inside the course are generated using ElevenLabs voice synthesis technology from scripts written by the founder. The words are the founder's; the voice is synthetic.
- The “John” avatar image. The headshot you see in the footer and on social surfaces is AI-generated. It is not a photograph of the founder.
- Written marketing content. Articles, social posts, and email copy are written with assistance from AI language models (primarily Anthropic's Claude), then edited and approved by the founder before publication. Thought, direction, and final wording are the founder's responsibility.
What is NOT on our platform
- Live appearances as “John” (no interviews, no webinars, no podcasts, no real-time chat).
- AI-generated course lessons, exercises, or journal prompts. Those are the founder's work.
- AI replies to your support emails. A human reads and writes every response.
If you have questions about any of this, email support@fineisalie.com. We will answer them directly.
